Aberfeldy and Achran

A walk along the Birks of Aberfeldy drew a blank on Dipper but a pair of Grey Wagtails were cavorting in the stream and a Treecreeper was seen. The Falls of Achran was also visited, where there were 39 Curlews, three Mistle Thrushes, a Siskin and a couple of Oystercatchers. Red Squirrels were seen at both sites.

St.Monan's, Kenmore and Aberfeldy

From the window and during a short walk at St.Monan's this morning, we encountered a Red-throated Diver and small numbers of Razorbills, Guillemots, Gannets, Kittiwakes, Shags and so on offshore. A flock of seven Siskins flew over.

We moved on to Kenmore, where we had a pair of Goldeneye, half-a-dozen Bramblings, four Treecreepers, a female Sparrowhawk, three Siskins, two Buzzards and a singing Mistle Thrush. Another Mistle Thrush was singing in Aberfeldy.

Aberfeldy and Loch of Butterstone, 9th January 2017

After a casual morning and early afternoon around Aberfeldy, we called in at Loch of Butterstone for 20 minutes on the way back to Edinburgh, hoping for the drake Smew that had been reported yesterday but having no luck in a quick few scans. 17 Goosanders and 15 Goldeneyes were nice to see, though.
